One-a-Day Granny Cowl

My One-a-Day Granny Cowl is finished!
(Well, if you don't look at the 7 squares x 6 rounds + 1 black round's worth of ends that is still flapping happily about...)

We left yesterday afternoon on an impromptu hunt with the boys, I had just  about time to grab my hookie things.  While the eldest and Dad were freezing their butts off in the hide since 07h00, youngest and myself placed ourselves as close to the fire as we could, back at camp:

I just had one row of singles to do, all around.  My fingers were freezing!

In the end I hung the scarve around my neck while doing the last bit!
Here it's all done and doing double duty with my beanie.

Worked a treat :-)

(You'll note that I'm discreetly quiet about The Great Romany Blanket...)

One-a-Day Granny Cowl Scarf

A couple of us got together to knit/crochet a few things as part of the Knit-in-Public-Week thingey. The plan was to donate what we made to the school, to use as and where required.   So my contribution was this granny cowl, inspired by the lovely cowls Alice hooked down downer under in NZ

...and this beanie (which I promptly decided to keep for myself, and I donated another one that I bought new!). It's the first time a beanie fits nicely over my huge head, it covers my ears, and will be perfect for our December holiday venture up north to where it is very cold and wet.

I started thus with my own granny cowl, to match said beanie.  I will hook 7 squares, of 6 rounds each, using the colours in the beanie, but replacing the light blue with this denim blue:

The plan is to make one every day, as it goes so quickly, and next week I should be able to show off my granny cowl.

And then, some of you might ask...what happened to The Great Romany Blanket, that was going to be finished in time for winter??

Ah, yes...I'm still working on it...albeit very slowly...23 rows so far, and 23 chains.

I got a bit side-tracked.

But One-a-Day will again provide the needed momentum, so here I go!

In the meantime, have a cappucino and hook away :

Klaar!

What is nice...to hook with your sis, on holiday.
She started this mini-granny blanket at home in Ireland, and brought a pile of (lovely Stylecraft DK) stash with her.

We hooked on the stoep, with early morning-coffee and rusks.

A simple edge to tame the bright colours:

Et voilà!

'n Tweede kombers vir Hartenbos Huisie.
A second blanket for the little beach house.

Dankie my sisi.

Klaar! 'n Giant Granny Square kombers

So, toe word dit my mobiele projek.

In die kar as ek wag, of ons iewers heen ry.

Intussen is 'n gawe kombers klaar! Dalk doen ek volgende keer weer 'n twist :-)

Klaar.  Een snoeskombers vir een seuntjie.

One Giant Granny Square blanket is finished!

I looked at Sucrette' challenge: start with a Granny and just hook in the round, in the round, until it grows to a blanket, as large and colourful as you want it. Mmm, wasn't really the plan, but then I thought...WTH and started with a liiittle square......it didn't look too bad, so I continued, 'cause I thought THIS could grow into a snuggle blanket for the Little Man.

So, it became my Mobile Project.
In the car, while I'm waiting, or while we're driving somewhere.  In the park.  At night after storytime. By the fire on a hunting weekend.I

wanted to go to 100 rounds, but quickly realised it would be a bit...big. So I aimed for 60, but when I reached 54 it looked fine.  it didn't want to hook to a single bed size, just large enough to snuggle with in front of the tv, or in the car, or to play with. 54 rounds are perfect.

Couldn't wait to start with The Edge. I like The Edge, can understand why people wax lyrica about The Edge, 'cause you're so tired of all the same stitches, it's a treat to do something else!-)
The Edge: 3 rows trebles. Or doubles, depends on your English. Ending with a row half tr.
It did become a bit frilly. Think I found the mistake - where I joinee the tr into the granny cluster, I should have hooked only 2 st into the cluster? Don't know how I managed 3, maybe should hook deeper.
O wel.  Will remember next time

Meanwhile, its a NICE blankie. O, and there's a twist in the centre. Read about The Twist, didn't quite understand, until I got to row 15 and realised the squeare is becoming skewed!  So I duly turned the worked from then on, after each row, and now quite like the effect, with The Twist in the centre of the blanket :-).  Might just do it like that, on purpose, next time.
Done. One snuggle blanket for my boy.

Ek leer hekel.

Hier gaat ek.

Birth of a hobby (and a blanket)

I'm learning to crochet. For years I didn't like it at all, but changed my mind slowly after receiving this lovely Granny Square from my husband's granny...my sis alerted me to Attic 24..and then she started...and then I tarted! From a book, real slow, making lots of mistakes, and the promptly started with a giant project that is going to take years to finish - this Vintage Stripe Blanket/

Now I must learn the difference between US and UK terms, differents yarns..and try to find a local blog, 'cause I want to know about things HERE in RSA as well.
